There was a story. The story about something that had been happened in a boy’s life. People called him Lintang. He felt so sad because he couldn’t get real his dream.
He would never come to school again to continue her study. Because, at this time Lintang must hard work to give his brothers needs of life in order to survive after his father was dead.
Ikal, one of his friends in the school felt anxious because he hadn’t got Lintang in the school for more a week, not like usual. Finally, he tried to go to Lintang’s house in south beach of Belitong island. When he had came in there, he saw Lintang who was carrying a gunny sack on his shoulder. He looked like a porter of copra.
Ikal came near Lintang and said “why you didn’t go to school again? Did you forget to your dream and your father’s hope?”
“My father was dead. Like wise my father’s hope. Like wise my dream.” Answered Lintang by soft voice. Heard so sad by Ikal’s ear.
“Why you didn’t told us about your disaster?” Ikal felt sorrowful.
“I would tell you!” Lintang answered, and then he told the accident to Ikal. When he went home from the school nine days ago, he didn’t find his father at house. He searched him to the beach, because his father was a fisherman. But he still didn’t meet him.
But, suddenly one of fisherman that has gone for sail with Lintang’s father told him that his father was dead. The sailboat there was Lintang’s father was stricken by a big storm in the middle of ocean. He clung to the boat but the storm was too big. His father’s corpse couldn’t be found because the ocean was too wide. Lintang couldn’t believe that. He wanted to find her father to the ocean by himself, but the other fisherman tried to control his emotion.
After his father had been dead, Lintang should fight alone to give seven brothers needs of life in order to survive. He should make his brothers still alife, although in the bad condition.
“What a poor boy you are!” said Ikal. “I hate myself because I got no power to could help my friend.” The exhausted Ikal.
“Didn’t fault your self!” said Lintang. “although he was dead, although my dream was also, but I would never forget his speech. He said that the knowledge could be got in everywhere you step your feet, in whereever you saw the world, and when ever you opened your mind to try thinking. I believed that.”
“You were honest friend. Actually, this disaster shouldn’t happen to a young boy like you.” Ikal said.
